Caves of Pennsylvania in the Eighteenth Century

This book collects the fascinating stories and descriptions of Pennsylvania caves from the 1700's.  Twelve different caves, many of which can still be visited today, were known.  Many historical figures wrote about the caves, including Presidents and generals, politicians and political prisoners, foreigners who fought on both sides of the Revolutionary War, and the "father of American geography."  They and the circumstances of their writing about the caves--two wars, political maneuvering, name calling between best-selling authors, lawsuits, land grabs, and love -- are all described in this book richly illustrated in color.
